The US Department of Housing and Urban Development or HUD has a permanent housing program called HUD Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH). This combines Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance from HUD with case management and supportive services from the VA. This is permanent, subsidized housing that can look like a tenant voucher or rental subsidy applied to any home, or a project-based voucher applied to homes in specific buildings.
The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program is a VA rapid rehousing program for Veterans and their families. The program includes homelessness prevention supports, housing placement, supportive services, and temporary financial assistance. Veterans with no income can qualify and then be assisted to gain an income to pay for their rent during the program so that they continue to live in their housing after the program ends.
