Help is a Call or Text Away
If you are experiencing domestic violence or intimidate partner abuse, there is help. Abuse can look like a pattern of behaviors from one person to gain and maintain control over another person, and can be physical, emotional, sexual, economic or psychological. If this type of experience describes what you are going through, or if you are not sure if this applies and want to talk to a counselor, please use any of the resources below to learn more about your options. Your safety matters. You matter.
Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline - The Network
Text or call the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline at (877) 863-6338 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Or you can visit The Network's website to chat anonymously through the Chat Hotline located at the top of the website's homepage.
You can contact them for any needs related to safety or emergency planning, resources including legal advocacy, counseling and housing options. You can also reach out to them simply for a safe person to talk with and process your thoughts and possible next steps. Family, friends, and allies can also text or call to learn more about available resources on behalf of a loved one or client.

Homeless Status
People attempting to flee domestic violence are considered to be experiencing homelessness as it relates to eligibility criteria for housing programs. As an example, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funded housing that is only for people experiencing homelessness is available to people fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence. Please explore housing options through your local Coordinated Entry System.
